Manchester United boss defends decision to bench Cristiano Ronaldo in 1-1 draw against Everton

Manchester United was subject to another difficult Premier League match when Everton won a 1-1 draw. Everton had been trailing in the first half at Old Trafford.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made some changes to the team on Saturday after United’s recent 2-1 victory over Villarreal in the Champions League.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo being in great form, the Norwegian boss has dropped star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo from the team.

The manager’s decision to change the lineup seemed to be vindicated when Anthony Martial scored the first goal in the 43rd minute.

Despite Ronaldo being off the bench during the second half, the visitors were able restore parity with Andros townsend scoring. The Red Devils lost the home match by a single point, and are now out of the race for the league title.

The 36-year-old looked irritated at the end, and was heard muttering as he walked down the tunnel.

When asked about leaving the Portuguese out, Solskjaer claimed he didn’t regret the decision.

He said (as per Sky Sports): “You make decisions throughout a long, long season; you have to manage the players’ workload and the decision for me was the correct one.”

“Anthony Martial did well, scored a good goal. Edinson [Cavani]Needed minutes and could have had an end goal. We have to make those decisions at the time.”

Manchester United are expected this season to pose a serious challenge to the Premier League title.

They have made significant investments in bringing in new players for the summer transfer window.

However, their performances haven’t been very convincing in the last few matches.

Ronaldo has been a tremendous contributor to the team through his goals.

It is only fair that he should have more opportunities than other members of the team.
