Arsenal have been handed a major injury blow with midfielder Granit Xhaka set to be sidelined for the next three months as per the Athletic.
The injury occurred at the weekend in Switzerland, where he was playing against Tottenham Hotspur. He had to be taken out towards the end of that game.
The injury was caused by a collision between Lucas Moura, a Brazilian winger.
The Gunners had a terrible start to their Premier League campaign, losing three consecutive games. However, they are just starting to improve and Mikel Arteta’s side will be hurt by the loss of Xhaka.
The Swiss midfielder, who came from Borussia Monchengladbach to play for Arsenal, has had a mixed start to his time at Emirates. However, he is the club’s best passer. Arsenal will be disappointed.
Following the North London Derby win over Tottenham, Arteta confirmed that he was pretty worried about the injury and it seems that the Spaniard’s worst fears have been realised.
He said at the time: “Unfortunately he got an injury and I’m pretty worried because it doesn’t look very positive at the moment.”
It will be interesting to see how Arsenal cope in his absence now.
Albert Lokonga, a summer signing, will likely get extended game-time alongside Thomas Partey. The youngster made his move to the Premier League earlier in the summer and has impressed with his performances so far.
Apart from his passing ability, Arsenal are likely to miss Xhaka’s aggression and leadership qualities as well.
The Gunners are currently in the Premier League with wins against Tottenham, Burnley and Norwich City. They don’t want to lose their momentum due to an injury blow.
