Barcelona striker Braithwaite to have knee surgery amid reports Denmark international will be out until 2022


The Liga giants have suffered another attacking setback, with it revealed that the 30-year-old frontman is set to go under the knife

Barcelona have announced that Martin Braithwaite is set to undergo knee surgery, with a niggling knock for the Denmark international not responding to initial treatment.

As a result, he will be forced under the knife. Liga giants are being rocked again by another setback to their attacking plans.

Having seen Lionel Messi depart as a free agent over the summer and new arrival Sergio Aguero pick up a calf complaint , while Ansu Fati eases his way back from a long-term knee problem , Braithwaite has now been added to the list of absentees at Camp Nou.

Barcelona said in a statement on the club’s official website : “The first-team player Martin Braithwaite has a femoropatellar injury in his left knee which has not responded to conservative treatment. 

“The surgery will be performed on the Danish striker in the coming days. 

The club will publish a report on the injury updates once it has been completed. 

The 226-minute total of appearances by the Danish international in the league this season has been 3 

“The striker from Denmark scored twice and assisted another goal on the opening day against Real Sociedad at Camp Nou.

Once Braithwaite has had his operation, Barca can expect to give a timeframe for his recovery.

Reports suggest that he could be out of commission for as long as four months.

His efforts in 2021 will be over. He won’t be seen again until early 2022.

Barca will be without him for the near future as Ronald Koeman’s side is playing big games.

They have collected seven points from their three La Liga matches so far this season, and will open their Champions League group stage campaign against Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
