Mike Rari Embraces Patience, Vulnerability, and Growth on His Latest Single

For Mike Rari, the beginning of this song didn’t start with a beat — it started with a feeling. Before there was an instrumental, before studio time was booked, the song had already begun to write itself. “It practically penned itself based off my first experiences with an individual in Houston,” Rari explains. The rest came together organically once he stepped into the studio, where the track became the first collaboration between Rari and producer Ryan Mellow.

That first session proved pivotal. As Rari, Ryan Mellow, and The Szns worked through the recording process, chemistry formed quickly. “By the time we finished mixing my verse and The Szns, we knew we had something special,” Rari says. What began as an intuitive emotional release evolved into a record rooted in intention, balance, and self-awareness.

At its core, the song carries an unspoken message about patience and self-preservation. “You always want to make sure your cup is filled before you pour into someone else’s,” Rari shares. “You can’t give your all to a situation when there isn’t any to give — no matter how enticing it may be.” That quiet truth shapes the entire record, offering listeners a reminder to slow down, reflect, and choose themselves.

The moment everything clicked came early. After recording the first hook, Rari stepped out of the booth with a certainty he still remembers vividly. “I knew we had something,” he says. Working with a new producer could have introduced growing pains, but trust played a key role. “I put my trust in Ryan, and the rest was on me to deliver and speak from the heart. Iron sharpens iron.”

The track also became a turning point in Rari’s artistic development. It challenged him to approach creation with humility and openness. “This song taught me that it’s okay to start over and relearn what you thought you knew,” he reflects. “Find comfort in the unfamiliar. Take your time because you care about it.” That mindset opened the door for experimentation — especially vocally.

For the first time, Rari leaned into singing rather than relying solely on rap. “Learning how to use my voice and hold notes was challenging,” he admits. “But R&B has always been my pocket — where I find the most pleasure and growth.” That evolution marks a new direction in his sound, one he continues to refine with each session.

While the song stands confidently on its own, Rari already imagines what it could become in the hands of another visionary. “DJ Candlestick easily,” he says. “Between him and The Szns being on the record, it would be pure love to Houston.” For Rari, that collaboration would represent respect for culture, legacy, and creative influence.

The biggest challenge throughout the process wasn’t technical — it was internal. Navigating humility, accepting critique, and stepping into unfamiliar creative spaces required trust. “You can’t be afraid to mess up,” he explains. “Eventually something great is inevitable when talented creatives come together.”

Looking back, the song holds a special place in Rari’s journey. Though it was recorded early on, he waited to release it until the timing felt right. “There’s something invigorating about it being raw,” he says. “It shows where we started and how far we’ve grown.”

As part of a larger narrative, the single represents acceptance of the past and gratitude for the experiences that shape us. “You aren’t special without your story,” Rari reflects. “I wouldn’t change a minute of mine.”

Ultimately, the lasting message is simple but powerful: choose yourself. “It’s okay if it takes time,” Rari says. “You deserve to put yourself first. Everything you went through brought you exactly where you are now.”
