Tony Vega Biography EditRevisions
Eladio Antonio "Tony" Vega is a renowned salsa singer and bandleader. He is currently pastor of an Evangelical Church in the United States.

Tony Vega received his primary education in his hometown. He was born into a musical family and thus learned to play the bongos and conga at an early age. In 1967, when he was 10, he played the conga for a bunch of kids called "La Preferida. " His family moved to New York City in 1968. In New York, Vega continued to go to school. However, in his spare time, he played the conga for various Latin rock bands including "City Trash. "

Latin music was very popular in New York during the 1970s and while Vega played the conga for local rock bands, he became increasingly interested more in the style of music known as Afro-Caribbean salsa. He listened and was influenced musically by Ismael Rivera, Rafael Cortijo, Rafael Ithier and El Gran Combo.
