Jose Manuel Thomas Arthur Chao, better known as Manu Chao (sometimes appears as Oscar Tramore) is a French singer born on June 21, 1961 in Paris, France, the son of a Galician father and Basque mother.
Manu Chao is the son of journalist Ramón Chao, Galician Villalba (Lugo) and Felisa Ortega, of Basque origin, brother and cousin Antoine Chao Casariego Santiago (Santi) with whom he formed Mano Negra. His father, a journalist, went to Paris for his career, and then to Bolivia. His mother emigrated to France during the dictatorship of Francisco Franco. Manu and his brother grew up in Sèvres, west of Paris.
