Born in the city of Cartago Valle on the 5th of October, when he was only eight years old, his mother died and left 10 children orphaned. In 1976 he moved to the city of Medellín, seeking better opportunities, began selling cigarettes at retail in public and with the first profits bought a cart to sell potatoes a job he held for 2 years.
